Debuted by The Opium Group September of 2002, Privé, French for privileged, is still one of South Beach’s most exclusive venues. You realize this immediately when you see the throng of people piled outside hoping to gain entrance. If you don’t want to end up part of the steady stream of hopefuls turned away every night, you should keep a few things in mind: First of all, make sure you get there early. Privé is a smaller club so it tends to fill up quickly and no one wants to piss off the fire marshal. Second, be on top of
game: ladies make sure that you are sexy in full force – but please keep it classy. Fellas, in addition to making sure that you are also dressed to impress, bring some of these sexy ladies with you -- your chances of entry are greatly improved if you have a favorable guys-to-girls ratio…the more girls the better. Those in the know, find it always helps to be on someone’s guest list (hmmm…I do believe the good folks at NightCure.com have one of those), but keep in mind that most of these lists cease to be recognized past midnight. And if all else fails, getting a table always works. These can run you from $200 - $2,000 depending on the size of the group.
Once in, you walk up a splitting staircase: bear to the right to The Opium Lounge if you want to listen to hip-hop …to the left to Privé if house is what you crave. Regardless of which way you choose, the star power here is intense…regulars include Producer Scott Storch and everyone from Cameron Diaz to Bill Murray have torn up these dance floors:
Privé
With its fabulous art/furniture, beefy columns and solid onyx bar, this place feels like an exclusive NYC ultra lounge. This entire club is one big VIP section, but the ultra VIPs can be found on the upper level located toward the back of the room protected by security. Unfortunately, you will have to walk back toward the hallway splitting Privé and The Opium Lounge in order to find the bathrooms.
The Opium Lounge
In addition to blown up prints of Hip-Hop’s founding fathers, this hip-hop room boasts two stripper poles and ladies are encouraged to use them for balance while they dance on the bar…but please, please keep your clothes on. The VIP area is set up behind the bar a few feet above the main room affording a great view of the happenings below. Walk to the back of the club and you will find yourself in a mini sitting area just outside the bathrooms and next to the entrance that leads to the Opium Gardens below.
Why It's Hot: You can switch from The Opium Lounge to Privé if you want a change in music. If you want a complete change in scenery, entry also allows you access to the entire Opium Gardens complex.
