One of the über fabulous hotels that make South Beach, the Shore Club is another favorite of celebs and offers a steady stream of star sightings (regular clientele include the likes of Hugh Grant and Heidi Klum). Decorated much in the same style as its sister hotel, The Delano, it’s a good thing that the Shore Club doesn’t do a Tuesday night…or else we’d have to choose between the two (this spot is great Friday & Saturday). But unlike the Delano, the Shore Club’s lounge is not located in it’s lobby, it has a more laid back feel and has
separate side entrance on 19th Street that takes you directly to the patio (If you decided to go all out and you are staying at the hotel, then you need only walk back to the patio through the lobby). The almost hidden side entrance gives you the impression that this is a secret pool party… but as long as you dress to impress and arrive reasonably early, it is rather easy to get in.
We suggest you start the night off with dinner at super-swanky Nobu…easily the best sushi we have ever experienced…you never know, you might run into Robert DeNiro who likes to pay occasional visits when he’s in town (he created the restaurant with Nobu Matsuhisa). But be sure to put your name on the list early, there is usually a considerable wait. If you aren’t in the mood for sushi, the Tuscan inspired Ago is guaranteed to offer something to tempt your tastes. Both restaurants are open until 1AM and prime you for the night with a cool mix of house and Ibiza music. Bathrooms can be found in the hotel lobby or in the basement below the two restaurants. But beware, the women’s bathroom has the most unforgiving bright white lighting that will give even the most beautiful goddess “club face.”
Once you have sampled the culinary delights that the Shore Club has to offer, you are ready to spend the night in its sensual garden paradise, the SkyBar:
RedRoom/RedRoom Gardens:
The DJ spins a smooth mix of hip hop & house, but the SkyBar is not a dance club, it is another one of South Beach’s top people watching arenas. The ultimate in style and sophistication, the RedRoom is a delight to the senses with its warm, red ambient lighting and eclectic mix of French and Middle Eastern design. Once you get your drinks from the bar, venture outside to the RedRoom Gardens where Moroccan lanterns cast curious shadows on the patio and plush seating areas are perfect for intimate conversation. The large four-poster bed provides the perfect spot to layback and watch the moon and stars…after all this place is called the SkyBar…while listening to the soothing lapping of the surrounding fountains. Countless lanterns placed throughout the gardens bathe everything in soft romantic light…giving the entire place a dream-like quality.
Main Pool/RumBar:
If you arrive early, you have a greater chance of getting one of the fabulous over-sized beds or ottomans that can be found on either side of the invisible edged pool and make perfect perches for marathon people watching. Located at the foot of the pool, the RumBar is famous for its extensive selection of, well, rums (more than 75 kinds) and the delectable drinks that they make possible…as well as your traditional drink recipes with pleasantly surprising twists (mmmm…SkyBar Cosmo).
SandBar:
For another level of relaxation, kick off your shoes and venture barefoot past the Main Pool/RumBar to the SandBar. Comfortable rattan furniture located around the smaller pool allows you dig your toes into the fine sugary sand and enjoy the night in a more secluded setting. The SandBar is available for private parties and features flowing white curtains and soft lighting provided by an array of hurricane lamps and lanterns.
Why It’s Hot: One word: Nobu…my mouth is watering as I type this. Also the Shore Club has an amazing chill vibe…I don’t care how wound-up and stressed you may have been when you arrived, you won’t stay that way for long.
Why It’s Not: Those scary unflattering bright lights in the women’s bathroom…are you serious? How can a place so chock full of sexy ambient lighting make such a horrible mistake? In addition, the drink prices at the Shore Club are a little high…even for SoBe standards.
