The fifth is currently closed for renovation.
The only purpose built club on South Beach and boasting it?s own parking lot (priced from $20 to $30 depending on the night/event), this building has been everything from a gentleman?s club to Club Cristal (**cringe**). But luckily for us, it was bought by Canadian nightclub impresario Oliver Geddes, gutted and rechristened The Fifth.
Reminiscent of New York?s Studio 54, the party is always a wild ride courtesy of nightclub marketing genius Gerry Kelly (Bash, State, Level, etc.). Friday features more of a hip-hop / R&B crowd, but if
want the full effect, the best night by far is the Saturday night party thrown by Kelly and his friends. Resident DJ Nikolas spins one of the best mixes of house, rock and hip-hop that we have heard on South Beach. If you intend on getting in on a Saturday, make sure you come fabulous in full force and reasonably early. The best way to ensure entry is to either secure a table (grab one quick, starting at $300 they tend to go fast) or get on our list?but remember, as with most of the other clubs on the beach, these lists expire quicker than Cinderella?s coach when the clock strikes twelve.
The first thing you?ll notice when you walk in is the expensively stocked mahogany cabinet (or ?Wall of Fame? as I like to call it) on your right: if you can afford it, you too can have your name engraved like Paris Hilton?s and so many other high rollers on a polished brass plaque so everyone can see what?s in your personal bottle reserve. But this level of service is what the Fifth is known for. Upstairs it?s not unusual to find complementary goodies like cigars laid out. VIP tables upstairs come equipped with mini fridges so all of your mixers remain cold and handy. As if all of this decadence wasn?t enough, a real surprise awaits those heading to the ladies room upstairs in VIP. In addition to a very diligent attendant, ladies will discover not only a cozy and chic sitting room, but also a makeup artist and hairdresser complete with all of the tools of the trade?but make sure to get there early if you expect service ...they never stay the whole night. For those not lucky enough to make it to the ?status level,? another set of bathrooms are located on the first floor toward the back of the club between the two bars.
Featuring two floors of sheer decadence, three bars and two VIP sections, it is not unusual to witness staged performances like those Kelly was known for back when Mansion was Level. Very rarely is there an unthemed Saturday night and staff can be found wearing some fabulous costume or another. Everything here is done with flourish. All is decorated in creams and whites from the plush leather couches to the tall custom pillar candles. But even with all of this fabulous décor, the Fifth never forgets that a club is supposed to be fun. Elaborate decorations are changed to match the theme of the night?s party but certain elements are permanent fixtures (?ah yes, that is a horse hanging from the ceiling).
With his long tenure in the South Beach limelight, Gerry Kelly has built a long impressive list of superstar friends who love to pay regular visits. So you just might find yourself popping bottles next to an Oscar winner or Grammy singing sensation? and remember if anyone asks you what happened while you where here, you know what to plead?
Why It?s Hot: The vibe in this place is infectious?it?s hard not to feel like a VIP...and with that killer sound/lighting system and a steady steam of super skilled DJs, you?ll be dancing like a superstar all night long.
Why It?s Not: If you have a table downstairs, there isn?t any real security to protect you from encroachers?watch your bottles carefully or request a table upstairs if you can?but do so early because they sell out fast.
